GENERAL FORMULAS

Square Footage Inside of a Circle:
Length x Width x .7854 = Square Feet

Length Around a Circle:
Diameter x 3.1416 = Linear Feet Around a Circle

General Quantity Formulas:

Length x Width = Square Feet
Square Feet x Depth = Cubic Feet
Cubic Feet / 27 = Cubic Yards

Note: When figuring quantities, remember to double-check your measurements, allow for compaction (equals higher yield per CY), allow for a waste factor and
always round up.

How to Calculate Your Square Footage?

Driveway Coverage

EXAMPLE 1
Standard Driveway to be
covered with Stone 6" Deep

20' x 30' = 600 Square Feet
600' x .50 (6" Depth) = 300 Cubic Feet
300 / 27 = 11.11 Cubic Yards (round up to12 yards)
Driveway or Pad Coverage

EXAMPLE 2
L-Shaped Driveway or Pad to be covered with Stone, 7" Deep

This would be done in two sections.
20' x 35' = 700 Square Feet
10' x 32' = 320 Square Feet
320' + 700' = 1,020 Square Feet
1,020 x .58 (7" Depth) = 591.60 Cubic Feet
591.60 / 27 = 21.91 Cubic Yards (round up to 22)
Calculating Circles

EXAMPLE 1
Length Around a Circle, 16' Round Swimming Pool

16' x 3.1416 = 50.26'
To add 2.5' of stone around this pool 3' deep:
56.55' x 2.5' = 125.65'
125.65' x .25 (3" depth) = 31.41 Cubic Feet
31.41 / 27 = 1.163 Cubic Yards
Calculating Circles

EXAMPLE 2
Square Footage Inside a Circle, 24' Round Swimming Pool

24' x 24' = 576'
576' x .7854 = 452.39 Sq Ft (total inside pool)
To add 4" of sand evenly across pool:
452.39' x .33 (4" depth) = 149.29 Cubic Feet
149.29 / 27 = 5.53 Cubic Yards
